Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Tissue Bank
Mesothelioma is a disease which affects both men and women; exposure to asbestos is the commonest cause. Current treatments do not cure the disease therefore the aim of MesobanK is to collect and supply samples and data to assist researchers to identify new and more effective treatments.
MesobanK, which was established in 2012 and collaborates with mesothelioma centres in the UK, is the UK’s largest collection of blood samples, pleural fluid, tumour tissue and cell lines from mesothelioma patients. It is dedicated to the study of mesothelioma by providing researchers with samples for a wide range of mesothelioma research. Twenty-six novel cell lines and a tissue micro array (TMA) are also available for ressearchers who are working on mesothelioma/asbestos related diseases.
As well as access to tissue, researchers can request anonymised clinical and demographic data associated with their requested samples.
