New Papworth Hospital reaches 500-day milestone
Papworth Hospital hits a major milestone on Monday (December 5) - beginning its 500-day countdown to its long-awaited relocation to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus (CBC).
Since reaching its highest point at the 'topping out' ceremony last month, the new hospital is taking shape. The external facade is now virtually complete and further progress made in creating a line of connection between Papworth and Cambridge University Hospitals, through an underground link tunnel.
Stephen Posey, Chief Executive of Papworth Hospital said: "The New Papworth Hospital opens up numerous opportunities for the hospital to continue its pursuit of innovative cardiothoracic treatments through research and education. It’s an exciting time and an important milestone for our patients and staff at Papworth."
The new hospital is set to open its doors in April 2018 and will offer state-of-the-art facilities to patients in the East of England and throughout the UK. With 500 days to go, the hospital is currently focusing on six themes including: travel, staff accommodation, wayfinding and interiors, workforce planning, moving and equipment, as well as patient and staff journeys onto the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
Professor John Wallwork CBE, Chairman of Papworth Hospital added: "Papworth Hospital has a longstanding reputation for excellence and innovation, both in the UK and internationally.
It is important that we use the next 500 days to refine our plans and engage with our patients, staff and wider communities, to ensure that our high standard of treatment and care for patients and their families will continue to excel into the new hospital."
The hospital will also be hosting a drop-in event, this Wednesday (December 7) between 10:00am - 13:00pm for members of the public to find out more about New Papworth Hospital. For further details: www.papworthhospital.nhs.uk
