High Levels of Interest In The New Papworth Hospital Project

Six private-sector consortia have asked to be considered as partners for the project to relocate the internationally renowned Papworth Hospital to a site on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Following an advert for the project in the Official Journal of the European Union, a successful information event for potential private-sector bidders was held in early September attracting more than 120 delegates. As a result of that event, six consortia have completed the formal requirement of a pre-qualification questionnaire, to be considered for the next stage of the project.

“I am delighted with the response we have had from potential bidders. The strong turnout at our bidder event confirms that the New Papworth project is a highly attractive project, and this has now resulted in six formal requests to be considered for the next stage of the project.” said Papworth Hospital’s Chief Executive, Stephen Bridge.

Construction companies, technical advisors such as architects and engineers, and providers of facilities management services such as catering and cleaning, attended the New Papworth Bidders Day at the Cancer Research UK building on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.   Those interested in being considered for the project were given until the 22nd September to submit their Pre-Qualification Questionnaires to the Papworth Hospital Project Team. Over the coming weeks, these questionnaires will be evaluated and three potential partners will be identified in November 2010.

A detailed selection process will follow which will lead to the signing of a contract between the Trust and the preferred bidder in late 2012. The construction phase is expected to be complete by late 2015.
