R&D Unit
The R&D Unit facilitates high-quality research for the benefit of patients and staff at Papworth Hospital, the greater NHS and society as a whole. Responsible for overseeing the management of all research activity at Papworth Hospital it also provides franchised R&D management services at Hinchingbrooke, Peterborough and West Suffolk NHS Trusts.
The R&D Unit is located in the dedicated Papworth Research Institute alongside key Academic/Clinical Research Groups, Health Enterprise East (the NHS Innovation Hub for the East of England), and the Papworth Hospital CardioThoracic BioIncubator; a specialist innovation and enterprise facility providing office space and bespoke laboratory facilities (including access to blood and tissue banks and well-characterised patient populations) to pioneer developments in diagnostic technology and medical treatment of cardiovascular and respiratory disease.
Although much of our research is undertaken in clinical areas, the Research Institute acts as a central resource and focal point for research activity carried out on the Papworth Hospital site.
Our core objectives are:
- To ensure the highest governance for research activity
- To develop research capacity within the NHS
- To strengthen alliances with university and industry sectors
- To facilitate the transfer of research outcomes into clinical practice
Within these pages you can find out more about the R&D Unit staff, our key collaborators, the research portfolio we manage and the services we provide.
Also, you can download a map showing where to find us on the hospital site as we believe that it is crucially important that all Papworth Hospital research active staff pay the R&D Unit a visit - we are here to help.
