Patient and public involvement

Papworth Hospital has a Patient and Public Involement Committee (PPI) which is responsible for monitoring progress on the objectives set under the PPI and Patient Experience Strategy document and is involved in setting the priorities for the Quality Accounts for the year.

The Patient Experience Panel (PEP) continued to meet during the year and was involved in the Patient Lead Assessment of the Care Environment Inspection (PLACE). Members of the Panel are also involved in the 15 Steps* initiative which is ongoing.
*The 15 Steps Challenge is a series of toolkits which are part of the resources available for the Productive Care workstream. They have been co-produced with patients, services users, carers, relatives, volunteers, staff, governors and senior leaders, to help look at care in a variety of settings through the eyes of patients and service users, to help capture what good quality care looks, sounds and feels like.

The Trust continues to have strong relationships with The British Cardiac Patients Association (BCPA) and the Norfolk Zipper Club. Other patient support groups include:

  • Pulmonary Hypertension;
  • Immunology and lung defence;
  • Mesothelioma; and
  • Pulmonary Fibrosis

Foundation Trusts are also required to take steps to secure a membership which is representative of those who are eligible to participate.

We believe our success is because we listen to our patients and membership.

We have more than 10,500 members and they help us by electing our governors who provide support and advice to the Trust to ensure that we deliver services that best meet the needs of patients and the communities we serve.
