About Papworth Hospital

Patients and visitors

Papworth Hospital is a special place because of the extraordinary people that work, teach, treat and are treated every day. Whether you are currently a patient, are coming into hospital or are visiting, this website will give you information about the hospital and our services.

The safety of our patients and the experience they have while in our care is very important to all staff at Papworth Hospital. We are proud of our reputation as the UK’s largest specialist cardiothoracic hospital, and we achieve some of the best outcomes in the world for our patients. Our patients often travel long distances to see us, confident in the knowledge that we are at the forefront of providing new and innovative treatments for heart and lung patients.

We will do all we can to make you welcome and make your time with us as pleasant and comfortable as possible. This section of the website gives you information about preparing for, and being admitted to hospital and what to do when you arrive. It briefly describes the life of the hospital, how your clinical care is provided and also explains arrangements for going home.

Your questions and answers

This section of the website gives you information about preparing for, and being admitted to hospital, and what to do when you arrive. It also briefly describes the life of the hospital, and how your care is provided.

The website will not answer all your questions, but the nurse in charge of the ward or your doctor will be pleased to supply any information you need. As well as the information contained in this section of the website, you will receive more detailed information in two booklets - Handbook for inpatients and Handbook for visitors - when you receive your letter of admission.

If you require additional information prior to admission, please ring the hospital on 01480 830541 and ask to speak to the Booking Office or the nurse in charge of the ward indicated on your letter. They will be happy to help you.

If, while you are in hospital, you require any further information please do speak to the nurse in charge of the ward or to your doctor, who will be happy to help.

Enquiries

If you wish to make an enquiry regarding a patient, telephone the hospital number or ring the ward direct. It would be helpful to staff if only one person rings and then passes on the information to other relatives and friend.
