Clinical and basic science research

As part of the faculty of Cambridge University Medical School, PVDU has established program of clinical and basic science research into pulmonary hypertension. This program consist patient centred clinical trials with advanced therapies, and a translational research program investigating basic science questions in terms of clinical applicability, technological advances and new treatments in the field of pulmonary hypertension as well as into quality of life of pulmonary hypertension sufferers (The Cambridge Pulmonary Hypertension Outcome Review (CAMPHOR) If you would like to enquire about the availability of CAMPHOR in another language, or would be interested in assisting with it's translation please contact our PVDU nurse natalie.doughty@papworth.nhs.uk.

We regularly publish original scientific papers and reviews in peer reviewed medical literature.

All research is reviewed by an independent ethics committee. We have an excellent research and development department at Papworth Hospital who assist in the administrative and practical aspects of conducting research.

Many patients are asked if they are willing to participate in clinical research, though there is no obligation to take part, and a refusal does not prejudice their medical care.
