Chaplaincy - pastoral and spiritual care
About us
The hospital employs a whole-time chaplain, supported by a local Catholic Priest. With the help of our chaplaincy assistant and a small team of chaplaincy volunteers, we visit all the wards regularly. We have local contacts for all the major faiths and denominations, please contact the chaplains for further information.
The Chaplaincy Team
Our work is to care for your spiritual, religious and pastoral needs. This can be anything from helping you to follow your religious tradition, or by giving time to listen to your experience of being in hospital and offer comfort and support. We are available to all, whether of a particular faith or denomination or not.
We care for:
- Patients
- Relatives/visitors
- Staff
Your own religious representative is welcome to visit you during you stay, please contact the chaplains if you have any queries or special requirements.
Location of the chaplaincy
The chaplaincy is located in car park B, along from the restaurant. It consists of the chapel, the chaplain’s office and the sanctuary. The sanctuary is divided into a multi-faith area (with artefacts for prayer) and a relatives rest area. The facility is usually open between 8.00am and 8.00pm - if you need access outside of these times, please contact the switchboard.
Services
A midweek service of Holy Communion is held on Thursdays at 10.00am. For Holy days and special occasions, please see the chapel notice board for details. The Christian Sacraments of communion or anointing of the sick at the bedside are available on request.
