Occupational Therapy
The occupational therapist’s role is to assess patients prior to discharge to ensure that they will manage all aspects of daily living once home. This includes areas such as personal care, bathing and showering, domestic skills as well as advice regarding wheelchair and other equipment needs. If necessary, home visits may be carried out, either prior to discharge or as a follow-up to assess in more detail a person’s abilities at home and what, if any, services or equipment is needed.
The occupational therapy staff are available Monday to Friday and visit the wards regularly to provide advice and assessment. Please ask your named nurse if you feel a referral to occupational therapy may be appropriate
