Papworth is the UK’s largest specialist cardiothoracic Hospital. Our services include cardiology, respiratory medicine, and cardiothoracic surgery.  Papworth provides services for patients nationally and we are the country’s leading centre for heart and lung transplantation. Papworth provides a number of highly specialised services – we are one of only five centres who implant ventricular assist devices (VAD) and the only hospital in the UK offering Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy surgery. Our Respiratory Support & Sleep Centre (RSSC) was recently featured in the highly successful BBC documentary series "Sleep Clinic".

Papworth is ever at the forefront of innovation and leading-edge technology. In 2006 we carried out the UK’s first beating heart transplant and in 2007 we took delivery of the UK’s first dual head 64-slice CT scanner - for patients, the new scanner will offer a quicker and less invasive diagnosis. At Papworth we are also continuously looking for ways to improve our services – Papworth Direct will enable GPs to refer patients direct to our brand new state-of-the-art cardiothoracic diagnostic centre. For patients this will mean less waiting with quicker diagnosis and progression to treatment.
