Core Standards Declaration

Papworth Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has achieved all of the core standards for better health, for the second year running. The standards are set and monitored by the Care Quality Commission (formerly the Healthcare Commission), who check whether NHS Trusts have achieved a satisfactory standard of safety, clinical and cost effectiveness, governance, patient focus, accessible and responsive care, environment and amenities, and public health. Care Quality Commission 2008-09 – Papworth scores ‘Excellent’

Papworth Hospital achieved the 'Good' and 'Excellent' in the Care Quality Commission’s 2008/2009 annual health check NHS performance ratings.

As the health watchdog in England, the Quality Commission’s annual health check is the most comprehensive ever assessment of performance in the NHS. The Care Quality Commission keeps check on health services to ensure that they are meeting standards in a range of areas. The Commission also promotes improvements in the quality of healthcare and public health in England through independent, authoritative, patient-centred assessments of those who provide services.

Nurse with handwash gelPapworth Hospital scored ‘Good’ for its ‘Quality of Services’, which covers a range of areas including safety of patients, cleanliness and waiting times, and ‘Excellent’ for its ‘Use of Resources’ which looks at how well the organisation manages its finances.

The health check reviews all NHS trusts based on 24 core standards in areas such as safety, clinical effectiveness and patient focus. These scores are based on a range of information gathered throughout the year, including service reviews and inspections, as well as the data collected by other organisations.
