Professional Profile
Dr Webb graduated from Queen's University Belfast and trained in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine in Northern Ireland and the East of England. He gained dual speciality Certification of Completion of Training in Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Medicine awarded by the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Inter-collegiate Board for Training in Intensive Care Medicine before being appointed as Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at Papworth Hospital in 2008.

Specialist Clinical Interests
Dr Webb’s clinical interests include all aspects of cardiothoracic intensive care including acute kidney injury and fluid management, prevention of healthcare-associated infection, post-cardiac arrest care and acute heart failure. He is part of the team providing the regional Respiratory Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) service. Dr Webb also has a special interest in conscious sedation for healthcare procedures. 

Educational Interests
Dr Webb teaches trainee doctors about patient safety and quality improvement as part of the Royal College of Physicians’ Learning to Make a Difference Programme. Dr Webb has co-organised a number of national educational meetings for the Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists and recently co-organised a conscious sedation conference for the Royal College of Physicians. He is a member of the teaching faculty on a number of nationally recognised courses including the Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient Course and the Cardiac Surgery Advanced Life Support Course. Dr Webb is a Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors in Intensive Care and contributes to the University of Cambridge Medical Student educational programme at Papworth. He also organises the Tracheostomy Safety Course and the Safer Sedation Course at Papworth. 

Research interests
Dr Webb is the lead clinical advisor for the Assessment of Risk in Cardiothoracic Intensive Care (ARCtIC), a joint initiative of the Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists and Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre (ICNARC). He is the Royal College of Anaesthetists’ Quality, Audit and Research Coordinator at Papworth and has led Papworth’s participation in a number of multi-centre research studies. 

Other interests
As well as strong commitment to education and research, Dr Webb also holds positions with the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE), Royal College of Physicians, Faculty of Medical Leadership & Management, NHS East of England Clinical Senate Council and Eastern Area Intensive Care Group. Dr Webb is the Lead Clinician for Clinical Governance and Chair of the Quality & Safety Management Group at Papworth. Dr Webb is also Staff Governor (Doctors) and sits on the Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Council of Governors.
