Art at Papworth Hospital
Uplift and inspire patients, visitors and staff
Artwork can bring many therapeutic benefits to patients, visitors and staff within a hospital environment.
Papworth Hospital is holding a series of voluntary exhibitions featuring the work of regional artists and colleges.
Our programme of artwork aims to:
- Create a welcoming environment for patients and visitors
- Uplift and inspire patients with colours shapes and imagery
- Enhance the working environment for staff
Commissions and residencies
- Chris Wood - Ladder of Light
- Jane Prophet - Distinctions and Counterposes, Wysing Arts
- Stained glass window in Papworth Hospital's main reception
A new art display goes on show this month in the restaurant and in the Radiology waiting area.
The display includes new photographs from Jeff Harrison and watercolour paintings from local artist Alison Ginn.
Alison, who painted the Papworth girl shown opposite says: “My father was treated at Papworth Hospital and still speaks very highly about the wonderful staff, atmosphere and ethos of this unique place, hence it is the grounds of the hospital that have provided inspiration for some of my latest works.”
Patients and visitors are invited to contact Liz Bush, Arts Co-ordinator on 01480 364585 should they wish to purchase any artworks. Papworth Hospital benefits from 15% of the sale price.
Generous donations of artwork
Since the first exhibition was set up in 2003 with Pauline Aitken, many artists have showcased their work at the hospital keen to promote the psychological and physiological benefits art can have in a hospital environment.
We are now building up our own collection of artworks thanks to the generosity of artists who have exhibited here.
